You are under no obligation to use our services to find your accommodation in Lyon. However, if you decide to find your own lodgings, you must understand that you do so on your own responsability. It is certainly possible to find accommodation in Lyon, either an appartment, perhaps to be shared with friends, or a room with a local family.
The following points should be borne in mind:
Appartments proposed by rental agencies are often not furnished, or have only the most basic equipment. Bedding, cutlery & crockery etc. are generally not provided.
A deposit, normally two months' rent, is always required. You will also be asked for a guarantee from your parents. The university will not under any circumstances provide a guarantee. The rental agreement is generally for twelve months. It will be your own responsibility to negotiate with landlords or rental agencies, public utility services, etc. You will probably have to arrange contracts for the supply of water, gas, electricity, etc. and of course pay the bills.
Experience suggests that you willat you will probably have to stay in a hotel for 5 to 10 days while looking for accomodation.
